Observation layers can be used in projects for collecting features from imagery and video. See Add observation layers to learn more about observation layers.
To create an observation layer, complete the following steps:
- On the ArcGIS Excalibur home page, click Publish New: Hosted Web Layers.
Alternatively, from the left navigation menu, click Publish Layer.
- Click Observation Layer.
- Type a title.
- Optionally, provide a summary that describes the layer.
- Type tags that describe the layer
Separate the terms with commas (for example, Federal land is considered one tag; Federal, land is considered two tags).
- Specify whether you want to share the layer across the organization.
- Define the layer's geometry type by choosing between Points, Polygons, or Lines geometry types.
- Click Enable Attachments to enable attachments for the layer.
- Optionally, add additional fields to the layer by clicking Add a New Field and providing the following values:
- Field Name
- Display Name
- Data Type
- Domain Type
Note:
A Range domain cannot be made for fields of type String.
Click Add Field to Layer to add the new field to the layer.
- Repeat steps 6 through 9 to add more fields to the layer.
- Click Next.
- Choose the symbol style for the layer:
- Single Symbol
- Unique Values
Note:
By default, the Single Symbol style is selected and is based on the geometry type you chose in the observation layer details step.
- If you selected the Single Symbol style, choose from the following style types and provide the desired style values:
- Circle
- Diamond
- Square
- Triangle
- If you selected the Unique Values style, choose the Unique Values option to style your layer based on a coded value.
Note:
The Unique Values option is not available if the observation layer does not contain coded value domains. Range domains are not supported for styling. - Click Next.
- Review the summary information and click Publish Layer to publish the observation layer.
- Optionally, click Create Another Layer to create another observation layer.
